Today I’ll be sharing with you the contents of my 2020 Beautylish XL Lucky Bag! For those of you that maybe unaware, Beautylish is an online retailer of (mostly) luxury beauty products. Every year after Christmas they sell a mystery grab bag. Beautylish’s lucky bags are inspired by the Japanese New Year tradition of fukubukuro, in each bag there’s a cute tag with the following message:
Lucky Bags are a Japanese New Year custom that inspired us to create our own. Lucky Bag symbolizes longevity and good luck. We hope the surpises inside make your 2020 a little more lucky :)”
I received my first Beautylish Lucky Bag in 2018 when my brother purchased it for me as a late Christmas present which I reviewed here. Since then, its become his traditional gift to me. Although I didn’t write up a post for my 2019 bag, its contents can be seen on my Instagram.
My previous 2 boxes were the Regular Beautylish Lucky Bag because the XL’s sell out within a minute! This year, I was lucky enough to receive an XL from my brother! …And a regular bag from my husband, a double win!
Today’s post will just be the XL bag, I will be sharing the regular bag sometime next week 
A Beautylish XL Lucky Bag costs $175 + shipping and will have a retail value of at least $300. While I am quite happy with the value of my bag, I should note that the stated minimum value of previous years was $350. This was certainly noticed by people on forums who ultimately were disappointed with the $50 drop of guaranteed value.
The first item in my Beautylish XL Lucky bag was the Niacinamide Brightening Toner from Beautylish’s in house skin care brand Good Molecules. Since last year, every Beautylish Lucky bag includes a Good Molecules skin care product.
I am personally happy with receiving this in my bag. I am all about Vit C products and have started using this as my toner in the AM and PM. So far I am enjoying it and have no complaints. However, since I’ve only been using it for a week, I don’t have anything else to report either. So for now, I’m calling this product a win!
The next product in my Beautylish XL Lucky Bag is another skin care product, the Holifrog Vitamin F Balmy Wash. I actually haven’t heard of this brand before, but am excited to try this out, I will likely add it to my gym bag.
We’re also calling this one a win.
I was THRILLED to receive the Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore Shampoo! My colorist uses Oribe products on me when I go in for an appointment and I simply adore the scent. I’m not sure I’ll ever purchase this product after I finish it, but I will def enjoy using this up!
So, once again, a win!
Every Lucky Bag I hope to receive a makeup brush and was so pumped to find the Sonia G Crease One included! I have a handful of other brushes from Sonia G and really enjoy them. I don’t have this brush and am happy to welcome it to the rest of my fude collection.
Another firm win!
Next product from my Beautylish XL Lucky Bag the Latex Love lip gloss from Charlotte Tilbury! CT is a luxury brand that I admire, but have very little personal exposure to. The era of matte lips has been on its way out for a while, but I still haven’t embraced that gloss life. Perhaps this will be the product to change my mind.
While not a win, I wouldn’t call this a loss.
Another trending product I received was a liquid eye shadow from Cover FX. I wasn’t aware of the Shimmer Veil shadows from CoverFX and am meh on the product being in my Beautylish Lucky Bag.
So..while I won’t call this a loss, I’m not calling it a win either.
I received a set of Ardell strip lashes in my bag last year. I am more disappointed in these than I was last year. At least the strip lashes were black, I have absolute confidence that I will NOT be using these brown individuals. For such an expensive luxury box, I’m so confused as to why Ardell lashes are included. And please, don’t get me wrong, I use the Ardell faux mink and LOVE them…but I don’t think I’m alone in saying that Ardell shouldn’t be in this box.
So this is a firm thumb down for me. Again.
Now, for the BIGGEST win of my bag…the Viseart Grand Pro 3! The price point for this palette is the price of the entire box before shipping! I absolutely adore the Viseart brand and will swear by their matte shadow formula. You cannot convince me there is a better matte shadow formula in the market! I have several Viseart palettes, so I was over the moon to find this in my Beautylish XL Lucky Bag.
I know that there were some people who were severely disappointed to receive this variation and I can understand that. The color story of this palette is colorful and loud, not everyone’s cup of tea. I enjoy trying to experiment with color and this is a product that I would never buy for myself, so I am happy that I received this.
However, I will say that I do already own the Viseart Editioral palette which includes a similar color scheme. So I did pause for a moment after my initial excitement. But again, this is not something I would buy myself, so scoring this in my box is thrilling.
I will wholeheartedly consider this a win.
Overall Thoughts
The final value of my bag rang in at around $378!!
I’m so very happy to have received my first Beautylish XL Lucky Bag! The value is certainly there in my opinion and even though I do get them as gifts, I would totally buy them for myself if they weren’t!
If I could give Beautylish some notes, I would plead them to drop lashes from the boxes..or at least offer more lux lashes.
But that’s also me being pretty picky. Its a small dollar value item compared to the rest of the box!
I will be unboxing my Regular Lucky Bag gifted to me by my husband in the coming week. I’ll also be doing a dedicated post to my Viseart Grand Pro and may do some looks!
